Bio

Brigadier General Edi Turco is Commander of the Istituto di Scienze Militari Aeronautiche (ISMA), the Italian Air Force’s higher education and research institution based in Florence. Born in Udine, Italy, in 1972, he joined the Italian Air Force in 1991 and graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1995. A Master Navigator and Weapon Instructor, General Turco has more than 2,200 flying hours and has held a wide range of operational, command and strategic positions. His career includes senior roles within the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program Office in the United States, Commander of the 2nd Wing, and Chief of Staff of the Air Education and Training Command. He also served in Washington, D.C. as Defence and Air Attaché at the Embassy of Italy, with dual accreditation to the United States and Mexico. He subsequently headed the International Flight Training School (IFTS) Program Office, one of Italy’s key advanced military pilot training initiatives. General Turco holds degrees in Aeronautical Sciences, Political Science and International and Military Strategic Studies. He is a graduate of the Joint and Combined Forces Staff College in Rome and has received several national and international military honors, including the Italian Military Order and the United States Legion of Merit.
